Curtis A. Pettaway, MD, is Professor, Department of Urology, Division of Surgery; Professor, Department of Cancer Biology; Medical Director, Prostate Outreach Project; and Biologist, all at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Pettaway is licensed and board certified by the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Pettaway studied Biology and earned his undergraduate degree at Millersville University in Millersville, Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, graduating with honors in 1983 and proceeding to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, to complete his surgical residency. Dr. Pettaway fulfilled a second residency in urology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, as well as fellowships in internal medicine (University of Texas Health Science Center, Dallas) and urologic oncology (University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston).
Dr. Pettaway is highly regarded within the urologic oncology community for his numerous contributions and research in the field. He has served on the American Cancer Society Board of Directors, American Association for Cancer Research Gertrude B. Elion Research Selection Committee, and currently serves on the American Cancer Society Prostate Cancer Committee and American Joint Committee on Cancer GU Task Force. Dr. Pettaway has served as principal or co-principal investigator on over 40 funded and unfunded clinical trials and authored nearly 100 original peer-reviewed research articles. He presents his findings regularly at local, state, national, and international conferences and symposia.
