Chiledum Ahaghotu, MD, FACS, is Chief, Division of Urology, Howard University Hospital; Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Urology; and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC. Dr. Ahaghotu also serves as Chairman for the National Medical Association's Urology Section.
Dr. Ahaghotu completed his undergraduate study at Howard University, with a major in biology. He received his medical degree from University of Nigeria College of Medicine as a merit graduate, and proceeded to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital to fulfill a residency in surgery. In 1991, Dr. Ahaghotu returned to Washington, DC, as a resident surgeon at Howard University Hospital, where he was presented with the Department of Surgery Chairman's Award of Excellence. Dr. Ahaghotu served as a urology resident and completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Dr. Ahaghotu is an active and well-published member of the urologic oncology community, with articles appearing in such peer-reviewed periodicals as American Journal of Clinical Pathology, Journal of Urology, Journal of the National Medical Association, and Human Genetics. Additionally, he has served as Principal and Co-Principal Investigator for several National Institute of Health-funded studies to explore the interplay between genetics and prostate cancer risk. Dr. Ahaghotu has led numerous medical missions to Nigeria and played a key role in establishing one of only four urologic endoscopy centers in the entire country accredited for urologic residency training. In 2003, he received Howard University College of Medicine's Outstanding Faculty Research Award.
