PROACTIVE (PROstAte Cancer ETIology: Approaching PreVention through Education) is a national continuing medical education curriculum designed to provide urologists, internists, and family practitioners with practice improvements in the prevention of prostate cancer. There is a strong need for further education on:
- The rationale and appropriate use of clinical guidelines in screening for prostate cancer
- Individualized patient risk factors for prostate cancer and how to incorporate this information into an overall assessment and counseling strategy with patients;
- Differences, strengths, and limitations of current prostate cancer screening tests
- Familiarity with current evidence assessing prostate cancer prevention strategies, including chemoprevention with pharmacologic agents
